Blessing of Outdoor Stations
of the Cross

October 5, 2002

Reflected in the pond freshly filled by the rains of Hurricanes Isidore and Lili, were those gathered to bless the outdoor Way of the Cross. Beneath the unusually warm and most welcome sun, Fr. Jeffrey Waldrep, pastor of Corpus Christi Mission, blessed each station assisted by family and friends.

At each station someone read the Scripture referring to it, then a reflection was given to honor the person for whom the station was donated. As Christ suffered his passion, these people, the Body of Christ now, have also walked their own way of the cross by their lives, work and their faith.

Father Jeffrey prepares to bless the 15th station, the Resurrection, as Monica Flower and others follow the prayer service.
Over 50 were present to celebrate the long awaited event. The afternoon concluded with a reception in Umbria Guest House.

Three meditation areas along the path at the 4th, 7th and 12th stations and a gazebo by the water are planned. Donations have been given for the meditation areas. They will be created when clement weather allows.

If anyone would like to donate the funding for the gazebo, the cost is approx. $2500.

Jack Zimmerman holds crosses for each station for a Way of the Cross in the chapel. Adriana Rodriguez and Owen McGuire assist Father Jeffrey as he prays the blessing.
