The Dwelling Place Drawdown
May 13, 2016
Lee Home, Columbus
Macon and Tupelo
shared the evening.
The food was delicious--and lots of it. Just ask Karen Henry, Annie Love and Monika Beatty (not pictured) who served it. At Karen's invitation, many friends provided their choice recipes. Andi and Tom Hannigan provided and served the beverages from the Tiki Bar.
Shane Tubb, Larry Priest, Ed Swan and Bob Damm provided our entertainment. The music was fantastic.
The luck of the draw! Throughout the evening Mary, with her helper, Caroline Westmoreland, drew 219 tickets from the pot. At 10:00 p.m. the ticket for Larry Brown, from Madison, was drawn and he was the lucky winner of $2,500.
Jo Ann and Jim Kitchens (though Jim was absent) were present in the decorations and their gift of beverages.
ROUND 'N ABOUT
When Clare went to Dubuque in March, she and Sister Mary Colleen had a 'private audience' with Pope Francis. They both felt blessed!
The trip down a corridor in a private home brought a different kind of blessing. Clare tripped on an unseen step and crushed her right pinky on a folding door. Now with 2 pins in her little finger, she is learning to be ambidextrous!

We say THANK YOU
for your generous response to our letter!
Your love and gifts are helping us move forward.
The Next Step?
There is always just one more project awaiting as we care for this property and buildings. Pictured is Corky Jones as he completes putting in new steps, front and back, on our staff residence porches last week.
Thanks, Corky, and a THANK YOU to all our volunteers.
Growing Up Can Be Embarrassing
Yoda and Luke are continuing to grow. They donned these collars after a special trip to the vet.
On July 27 they started seven Wednesday evening classes of Puppy School-- Obedience training. I don't think the obedience part has started to take hold yet!!
Come to Pray -- On Your Time
We schedule retreats at specific times but we welcome you to come privately for retreat or spiritual direction anytime it is convenient for you and space is available. Three hermitages (small cottages) are available. Just check our website and send in your request.
Consider bringing your prayer group, deacons, parish council or a group of faith-filled friends to experience the peace and renewal that so many individuals experience here. Bring your own director. Tailor the time to fit your need for silence, prayer, sharing and input. Check our website or Facebook for options available. Contact Sheila Avery, secretary, 662.738.5348 to schedule your time.
KCs from Columbus Begin Upgrade on Two Paths.
July 9th- The hero of the day was Gary Gist who brought his front loader to bring white slag to the Way of the Cross while four KCs unloaded and spread the white stones on the sacred path.
On another stone path three other KCs, with the help of Gary's loader, dug out and laid gray brick to widen the path to Maria House. Lawrence Bush and Mary finished it the next day. The monkey grass is really a finishing touch.
Francis House and Pump House Get a New Look
On July 22, Garry Ronyak and son put new pillars on Francis House and on July 25 put a new door on the pump house. Little by little old buildings receive a new look.

Caring Friend and Benefactor
J. Roy Dee, II
January 25, 1932 - September 30, 2016
Roy Dee, a long time personal friend and supporter of The Dwelling Place, left his home in Alabama to rejoice in his heavenly home at harvest time. Silenced and physically disabled by a debilitating stroke ten years ago, this man of great creativity, talent, leadership and power was silenced and forced to let others minister to him 24 hours a day.
Roy and his wife, Mary Ann, had been Companion members of The Dwelling Place Community and were generous and sometimes anonymous benefactors of our ministry. His gifts were always led by the Spirit. Mary Ann often said he suffered from an enlarged heart.
The Dee River Ranch was his dream and vision as were his many other business ventures. His children and grandchildren are continuing to make his dreams a reality.
The Dee hospitality was without a doubt 'second to none.' We just knew we were expected on holidays as well as many ordinary days. Upon entering, there was always an offer of a glass of wine before being engulfed by the graciousness of host and hostess. He still communicated hospitality even when we took him Holy Communion when he could no longer speak. The gracious hospitality of the Dees was a mirror of the hospitality of Christ, the eternal Host, that Roy is now experiencing.

An Autumn Spruce-up
Kevin Styron of Styron's Lawn Service and Last House on the Block from Columbus volunteered here on September 17. They pruned the bushes and replaced mulch around all 8 buildings. What a gift! We are so grateful as we prepare for winter.
Golf-Cart S O S : Eight years ago Phil Hubbard donated a used E-Z-Go Textron golf cart to us, and Jim Sisson from Starkville kept it in running order. Though well used when we received it, it has served us well--until now. It needs a new windshield, solid top and vinyl siding. (We just installed 6 new batteries ).
If anyone has a golf cart to donate or would be willing to restore what is needed for this one, we would really appreciate it. The golf cart is very helpful as we move between our eight buildings, especially as winter approaches, and to drive handicapped retreatants to needed buildings.
Out with the Old---
The old bridge that has led us over and around the edge of the pond for many years is being replaced. It was no longer safe. Now that there is no water in the pond it is time to replace it. The new bridge is being built. Tune-in to the next newsletter to see the finished product!!
Repairing the OLD well is another current task. To get through the roof of the well house, branches had to be removed. To get the boom near it, two trees had to be cut down. Four County Electric came to our rescue. Upon closer examination, four other trees were also too near the power lines. Lawrence Bush, Corky Jones and his son, Tracy, are doing the clean-up. What a major project! And it is not made easier by the state-wide burn ban. Please, God, send some rain!

Our non-entertainers are sure to please-
A little Beatles and Bach and maybe some Bee Gees!
The best part of all? There's no clean-up committee!
We all love a party without the nitty-gritty!
But here's the kicker: it's a No-Show Event.
So you won't do something you would have to repent!
